Taryn McElheran
Taryn McElheran is a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Guelph-Humber from the Media Studies program in the Journalism stream. During that time period Taryn submerged herself into the media world. She was the co-art director for the University newspaper, produced and helped run a news program within the school called the GH Beat. Taryn also found time to aid in the orhcestration of a television news program. Her efforts involved finding stories, writing copy, and producing the overall show with the professor and a producer from CHCH in Hamilton.
Landing an internship as a junior reporter at Metro Newspaper in Vancouver in the early months of 2009 was a dream come true! Taryn absolutely loves travel and Vancouver is a destination on her career horizon. She loves the feeling that it comes with it and the people are amazing. Being there during Canada’s Juno Awards and the preparations before the 2010 Olympic games, also put Vancouver in a whole new bright light and big city way! Being published on a national horizon (articles showing up in the Edmonton Metro, Toronto Metro and Halifax Metro) was a dream come true, and made her more passionate about a career as a writer.
Music is inside Taryn’s core, in fact if you listen to her heartbeat it just might go Boom Boom Pow. Ever since she can remember she has always been a fan, going to concerts and buying CDs from favourite bands and tapping into what’s new is what keeps her blood pumping. She’s tuned in and from her seven years of taking music in school and having a rather large CD collection – she’s got an ear for what’s good! She really does march to a different beat of a few different drummers, but she keeps her ear to the ground and her fingers on today’s music pulse!
